Arcing ring, counterwasher: steel/ hot dip galvanized
Bolt: steel, grade 8.8/ hot dip galvanized
Nut: steel, grade 10/ hot dip galvanized
Washer: steel, 200 HV/ hot dip galvanized
The forked arcing rings are used as protective fittings for insulator strings of the long rod type. They are installed - on suspension and tension insulator strings on both ends of insulators in non-rigid 110 kV overhead networks and - on suspension insulator strings in rigidly-earthed 220 kV and 380 kV overhead networks if no directional effect of a
burn-off electrode is necessary and that
· at long rod insulators LP on the tower-sided end and on the middle of the string
· at long rod insulators LG on the tower-sided end of the string.
In case of overvoltages the flashower will happen between the rings. In case of creepage flashover at operating voltage (earth fault or earth short circuit) the arc will pass
over from the insulator cap to the ring. In both cases the foot points of the arc locating on the ring will move to the fork ends. The protective fittings have to be bolted to the
appertaining string accessories with an installation torque of 190 Nm. Because of the moveability of the protective fitting attachment caused by tolerances, the arcing rings
have to be oriented in direction of the insulator axis.

These forked horn rings are used as lower protective fittings for suspension and tension insulator strings of the long rod type in rigidly-earthed overhead networks. They are installed in conjunction with forked arcing rings respectively forked horn rings according to sheet B311/1 to B312/2
- on long rod insulators LP or LG on the line-sided end of the string
Attention!
At non-loaded suspension strings additional counterweights have to be mounted, otherwise the arcing rings will tip into the insulator strings.
The protective fittings have to be bolted to the appertaining string accessories with an installation torque of 190 Nm. Because of the moveability of the protective fitting attachment caused by tolerances, the arcing rings have to be oriented in direction of the insulator axis
In case of overvoltages the flashover will not happen at this substring, but at the outer string. In case of creepage flashover at operating voltage (earth short circuit) the arc
will pass over from the insulator cap to the ring. In both cases the foot points of the arc located on the ring will move to fork ends. After this the arc will be taken over by the
neighbouring protective fittings of the outer string.
