armour rods: aluminium alloy
Additional information
Suitable for Al/St conductors with right-hand outer layer
Compression joint according to DIN VDE 0212-485
Operating principle:
- ESA rods increase the available conductor cross-section and create a parallel current path to the compression joint.
The electrical connections of the connector to be renovated are relieved electrically and therefore also thermally.
- ESA rods increase the surface area available for heat dissipation
This further reduces the thermal load on the connector to be renovated.
The contact ageing of the connector and its associated mechanical softening is slowed down and the service life of the connection is extended.
Attention:
- RiShunt helical (ESA) should only be used with adhesive paste
- Care is required during assembly
- Single rods (rods not bundled)
Application:
- Can be used for Al, Aldrey and Al/St cables in which compression joints are installed
- Suitability for use with high-temperature conductors must be enquired about in advance
These listed RiShunt-Helical (ESA) do not perform any mechanical tasks!
Electrical tasksThe Rishunt-Helical is used as a retrofit to improve the structural serviceability and reliability ("upgrading") of compression joints, for example. It is intended to slow down the electrical ageing of the conductor connector to such an extent that no thermal softening or mechanical failure (breakage) occurs over the projected service life of the cable. The Rishunt-Helical should therefore not be regarded as a conductor connector under tension, but as a retrofit to improve the electrical connection, and does not need to be tested as a tension-resistant connection. The focus should be on the achievable electrical improvement.
Advantages
- Electrical amplification
- Cooling effect
- Longer service life of the connection
- No time-consuming replacement of the press connector
- therefore no readjustment necessary
- No new weak points are created
- Can be driven over with a trolley (tested by Omexom in 2020)

Additional information
The MAA boots rods are used when MAFRAL pull connectors that have been installed for a long time show increased contact resistance. This can be recognised by increased temperatures on the connector.
MAA rods are able to electrically reinforce the connector in such a way that the temperature at the connector is lower than at the conductor cable.
The conductor cable designations are according to CSN 024 210.
