One-way arcing ring, counterwasher: steel / hot dip galvanized
Bolt: steel, grade 8.8 / hot dip galvanized
Nut: steel, grade 10 / hot dip galvanized
Washers: steel, 200 HV / hot dip galvanized
These one-way arcing rings are used as protetive fittings for insulator strings of the long rod type. They are installed on suspension and tension strings
- at 110 kV:as upper and lower protective fitting
- at 220 kV and 380 kV:as upper protective fitting.
Attention!
When using these arcing rings as lower protective fitting in 110 kV overhead lines on double suspension strings being arranged cross to direction of line, keep in mind that
the swing angle of the double string is limited by umping of the arcing ring on the yoke.
The protective fittings have to be bolted to the appertaining string accessories with an installation torque of 190 Nm.
Because of the moveability of the protective fitting attachment caused by tolerances, the protective fittings have to be oriented in direction of the insulator axis.
In case of overvoltages the flashover will happen between the protective fittings. In case of creepage flashover at operating voltage (earth short circuit) the foot points of the
arc will pass over from the insulator cap to the ring immediately and will be driven to the burn-off electrode.
At this electrode a strong arc stream (plasma beam) will be formed which will get a stable direction caused by the joint operation of his own magnetic field with the magnetic
field of the current lead. Due to the arrangement and the effect of the burn-off electrode the arc will be kept away fom the insulator and the conductor.

These one-way arcing rings are used in conjunction wih upper one-way arcing for insulator strings of the long rod type. They are installed at the line-sided end of suspension and tension insulator strings.
In case of double strings these arcing rings are only suitable for a string spacing of more than 500 mm.
Attention!
When using these arcing rings on double suspension strings being arranged cross to direction of line, keep in mind that the swing angle of the double string is
limited by bumping of the arcing ring on the yoke.
The protective fittings have to be bolted to the appertaining string accessories with an installation torque of 190 Nm. Because of the moveability of the protective fitting
attachment caused by tolerances, the protective fittings have to be oriented in direction of the insulator axis.
Attention!
At non-loaded suspension strings additional counterweights have to be mounted, otherwise the excentric arcing rings might tip into the insulator strings
In case of overvoltages the flashover will happen between the protective fittings. In case of creepage flashover at operating voltage (earth fault or earth short circuit) the foot
points of the arc will pass over from the insulator cap to the ring immediately and will be driven to the burn-off electrode.
In both cases the cascaded arc being formed first will rapidly merge into the full arc due to the arrangement of the burn-off electrodes. Thus the intermediate protective
fittings are subjected to the arc current only a short time so that they are accordingly designed only for small rated short-time withstand currents.

These lower one-way acring rings are used in combination with upper one-way acring rings for insulator strings of the long rod type. The assembly is carried out on tension and suspension chains at the conductor end of the chain.
When using for double strings these arcing rings are only suitable for a string spacing 500 mm.
