In early project planning phases, basic calculations are sufficient to define, for example, the choice of fittings and tubes. Similar requests are often made to RIBE by customers. For this application, we have commercial structural analysis software available, as well as our own customised software tools.

We accompany our global customer base to develop robust and efficient overhead line cantilever designs. Therefore, we apply an analytical fast-track approach to determine for each cantilever the best design according to project requirements. With the use of structural analysis software, we verify the serviceability limit states and the load-bearing capacity of the structure on the deformed system in accordance with the specifications of EN 50119 and the Eurocodes.
Furthermore, we use high resolution FEM simulations in the design process of fittings and components of the cantilever assembly.
And we test the cantilevers in full-scale in our own test facilities (full-scale = 1:1 replication). Forces are introduced at the force application points, such as the catenary wire support clamp or the drop bracket. The deformations, buckling and failure at the tubes, fittings and insulators can be observed and evaluated.
